Today is good {teacher talk}

September 27, 2011

Today is a good day.  School has been back in session for 3 weeks and i'm starting to really get attached to my little ones.  I've got some real cuties this year who are all excited about school and eager to learn whatever it is I present to them.  I really do love that my schedule allows for me some classroom time a couple days a week.  I should also point out that the whole teaching two days a week thing is made possible because the school I teach at is an amazing program for home schooled families.  The kids don't come five days a week all day long like in traditional schooling.  These kids are coming just a couple days a week for learning and socializing. It truly is a unique, warm, and nurturing environment and I feel so lucky to be a part of it.  It has really opened my eyes and perspective up to the perks and advantages of homeschooling.   If you're interested in learning more about homeschooling I would suggest reading these lovely blog posts: one from my friend Jess who homeschools all four of her kids and another is from James at the bluebird blog who just started homeschooling her kids this year. Kind of cool to hear perspectives and insight from two awesome momma's who are living proof of how unique and fulfilling a homeschooling experience can be.

Also, I just figured out a new way to wear my favorite scarf- head wrap! Today is good, indeed.

Cool Kiddo Finds

September 19, 2011

"Cool Kiddo Finds"- creative title, huh? I've decided to start a new little weekly feature showcasing some of the coolest stuff for kids there is. One of my most favorite things about working in the children's apparel industry is being exposed to all the amazingly cool kid stuff out there. I'm a sucker for good design and am loving these goodies for obvious reasons.  Here are just five of some of my favorite kiddo finds right now.

1. elephant pillow by areawear
2. backpack by fjallraven kanken
3. truck by areawear
4. badges by coral and tusk

Over the weekend

It was totally one of those, nothing going on, the weather's perfect, lets just do whatever we want kind of weekends. So that, is what we did. Sleepy mornings, a few errands, coffee, Skype dinner date with our besties in Brooklyn, movies, cuddles. I'll take it. I'm sure you can't even handle all the exciting things that are coming out of us :) Hope everyone else had a good weekend!

Lets be real

September 16, 2011

I've been doing a lot of soul searching lately, not because i'm lost, but because I think it's important to continually evaluate yourself so you can continue to grow, evolve and mature into the person you're destined to be.  The weird thing was, it got me thinking a lot about this blog.  First off, I love having it. I love knowing that there is a place for just me to write, release, share, express and create.  What I HATE about it is the pressure to be a "blogger."  So, the very first thing I did before writing this post was go through old posts and delete the ones where I'm trying to be something i'm not. Any style post i've done- gone. I am not a fashion blogger, nor do I want to be, so why in the world did I make those posts? I like fashion as much as the next person but that doesn't make me a style expert.  I want this space to be a place where you can see who I REALLY am. I want to be honest and true. Silly and fun. Heartfelt and cheesy- because all those things, well, they're me. So from here on out I'm not putting the pressure on myself to be anything but me. Who cares about perfect blog design, followers, comments, yada yada yada. It's all so silly.  This is my blogging promise to you- What you will see is who I truly am.  I'm going to stop looking at other bloggers as something to strive towards and instead look at them as the inspiring women they are - That we're all unique and offer something special because of our differences in passions, clothing, DIY projects, mothering, wife-ing, area's of expertise.

This blog is about my husband and I
This blog is about my love for children's fashion and design
This blog is about my family
This blog is about kids and teaching
This blog is about my love for coffee
This blog is about flea markets
This blog is about my baby fever
This blog is about creativity
This blog is about me

Thanks for sticking around while I worked out the kinks.

Mini Fashion ♥ {Joah Love}

September 15, 2011

I've posted before about my love for Joah Love.  Since then i've been lucky enough to see their full collection pre-season at market in New York and yes, it's as good as it looks. I'm always in constant search for THE PERFECT tee for myself so when I found this line for kiddo I knew it had to be good if I wanted it all in my size! On Trend: jersey scarves for little. It's that perfectly worn in look that you just can't get enough use out of. I love their Omni Peace collection as well which you can read about HERE.  EEE, so cute!

A Tuesday night.

September 13, 2011

My "little" (cause he's 2 feet taller than me) brother is in town for the week (lives in LA) and tonight we were lucky enough to get together for an evening out.  pre drinks on the porch at our house followed by  yummy food and wine and great conversation. It's really the greatest thing there is, isn't it? ps. we like yellow. pps. how rad is my bro's mustache?

Me and my explorer

My explorer man. What can I say- It's one of the things I love very most about Nick.  His constant need to explore and discover. Whether we're some place we've been to 80 times or somewhere thousands of miles from home- to nick there is always something new to uncover.  We're travelers at heart and although we could not be happier with our choice to settle into a home and city, our desire to travel comes in strong waves of wanting, yearning and needing.  Right now, we are needing.  Our two year wedding anniversary and Nicks 28th birthday both fall in the middle of October which is when we plan to make the most of this "exploring the world" itch we've got going on. Our destination is yet to be determined but the thought of choosing a new city or country to explore excites our souls like you wouldn't believe.

We had a weekend!

September 12, 2011

Saturday Nick and I ran some errands and attended a friends baby shower, later meeting up with some other friends in the city for coffee and an art opening.  Our conversation was Europe heavy and now i'm craving another trip over seas like a crazy lady! Anyways, Sunday we went to church, came home and whipped our house into a clean, organized frenzy.  It feels so good when you know you've crossed lots of things off your to do list.  Nothing crazy or out of the ordinary this weekend but these are the kinds that i'm cherishing more and more these days.  Here are a few snap shots of our weekend around the house. Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend too! Lets kick this upcoming week's booty, eh?

Mini Fashion ♥ : Marie Chantal

September 9, 2011

This new (to me) collection, Marie Chantal is just beautiful. Innocent, Design conscious, and hip.  A bit on the pricey side but sometime when your looking for the perfect piece for your child's closet spending the extra money is worth it.  Color palettes are strong and the girl and boy collection are equally wonderful. Swoon with me now....

Today is Good

Despite the fact that I got very little sleep last night, and my mind was running in a million different directions as I laid in bed trying to calm it, I feel ready to conquer today. Here's why today is good:

-It's Friday
-I'm wearing my first, full on fall outfit (Boots, slouchy sweater, leggings ♥ )
-I've got a cup of hot coffee and a bagel sitting right next to me
-I have a plan in place to get my life more organized and prioritized (will talk about this more later)
-The thought of a relaxed night at home with takeout and a movie is just what I need tonight
-the latest issue of earnshaw's just came across my work space
-The weekend ahead is going to be a good one

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello, beautiful!

September 7, 2011

I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to share these photos with you.  Yesterday I teamed up with the ever inspiring, lovely beyond words, talented as all get out, Gina from Kiwi Street Studios for a little editorial styled kids shoot. Our beyond amazing little models are Mia and Kertu.  The entire afternoon these two were more than willing to take direction from Gina and I and they're larger than life personalities made the shoot so much fun.  I'm 100% positive these little ladies will go far in life.  Kertu told me she wants to be an Egyptologist (awesome, right!?) and Miss Mia  has her sights set on high fashion- she sang, danced and laughed the ENTIRE shoot and I just adored every second of it :)  Here are a just a couple shots from the shoot. Gina is off to shoot Fashion Week in New York (hello, jealous!) so we wont be seeing the full collection of images for a couple weeks. Thats okay, I'll just swoon over these.....
