It's been a while since I've sat down to write anything at all in this space and to be honest with you, I'm trying to figure out how I want to continue using this blog. The truth is, I just haven't thought much about it. My absence hasn't been some big thought out decision - it has happened totally on its own and it has been nice to not really care. I haven't checked stats, logged in to analytics or bloglovin in I can't even remember how long and gosh, what a nice feeling to just simply not care. I'm seeing this huge shift within the blog world (or maybe it's just my blog world) where people are using other outlets to share thoughts, feelings, recipes, products they love, etc. For me and a lot of other mama's, it's Instagram. The IG community is so warm and engaging (most of the time.) I almost always have a conversation with other women after I post an image, whether it be a word of encouragement or someone simply saying they like what they see, and I find myself doing the same to other women's posts. Even though I don't know half the women in real life, there truly is a sense of community there and I'm grateful for it. So, I don't know what that means for this blog. I'm certainly not planning on closing the door and saying goodbye forever but right now, I just don't know where I see myself going with it and I'm okay with that.

So until next time, have a wonderful holiday and i'll be back soon! xo!

Another rendition of who YOU should be following over on Instagram. Since I started the new account, @OURCITYHOUSE , i've had the chance to discover a lot of new accounts that I'm so completely smitten with. These are 4 that I just can't get enough of. Not only are these mama's photo's stunning, but you can tell that their hearts and souls are into this whole mama thing and it's so, so wonderful to read honest, intentional thoughts about raising these tiny humans of ours. So go follow them. They are lovely beyond words.

December 1, 2014

Hello friends! Phew, what a whirl wind of a weekend. Before I get into the details of this lovely little event happening this coming Saturday, I wanted to say thank you to any and everyone who came out to the City Flea's Small Mall. It was such an amazing day and we could not do it without our awesome vendors and customers. Y'all rock. And so now that that is behind me, I wanted to share another event I've got cooking (along with a rad team of ladies) that will sure to be a lovely little night. The Haven Magazine release party is happening THIS SATURDAY, December 6 from 6-10p at Simple Space OTR, Cincinnati. Live music, amazing goods for purchase (another awesome holiday shopping opportunity!) wine and beer, artwork from volume 1 available and of course the star of the show, Haven Volume 1. It's really going to be so, so lovely and if you are in the Cincinnati area, we would so loved if you would stop by. More details here:

I wonder if it makes me the laziest blogger in all the land that I just screen shot my instagram feed to post here? Ha! Anyways, since switching accounts over to @ourcityhouse I have been having such a fun time documenting our daily plus things in and around our city. I have been feeling so, so grateful to live in Cincinnati lately. I tell you what. The creative community here is thriving and having genuine souls to connect and create with is such a gift. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

In Ru's short little life she's been to quite a few places and we've learned along the way what works and what doesn't. I will say that by no means do we travel with no bumps. Regardless of the amount of toys, books, stickers we have packed, if we are traveling by car she reaches her limit around hour 3 but since this weekend we are traveling by air, i'm much more relaxed about keeping her entertained. We flew just a few months ago (4 hour flight) and she did so, so good. This weekend we will only be flying about an hour so really, this should be a breeze. At any rate, it's still important to have everything she could need or want plus whatever toys and books I pack during travel is what she'll have to play with wherever we're visiting, so I like to make sure she won't tire of them en route.

1. The whole lot of it. Lunch box filled with snacks / mystery bag filled with little blocks and clasping rings / a couple new books she has yet to see / new water bottle (I've learned it's worth purchasing a few new things when traveling. It is exciting for her and we can usually look at or talk about whatever it is!) / Another mystery bag filled with some little dinosaur and farm animal figurines.

2. Snacks! These are her favorite snacks but I never buy them packaged individually like this so it will be fun for her to eat them in a new way. Plus you can never rely on a decent meal when you are traveling so I like to make sure we have some 'squeezies' with us for some healthy nutrients.

3. Better look at her little bag of toys.

4. New sticker book set. She is totally obsessed with stickers so when I came across these with reusable stickers, I was sold. I'm confident these will be the only thing she uses on the plane!

(All the toys in her little bags, she already had. I just dug pretty deep in her toy baskets to find small ones she hasn't seen in a while. They'll be like new to her!) She'll also have a blankey and her favorite stuffy with her! Am I missing anything crucial!?

November 19, 2014

Hey all! Just wanted to pop in to shamelessly plug the final two City Flea events we have happening for 2014. The 30th is The Small Mall - our brick and mortar shopping event held at the 21c and CAC. It's so fun having all our favorite local shops under one roof to kick of the holiday shopping season by keeping dollars local in two super rad environments. And Dec 13 is our holiday market at Washington Park so bundle up, grab a hot cocoa and be prepared to get in the holiday spirit like nobody's business for this evening market. Hope to see you!

Ru has been asking for her 'animal pants' since the day they arrived and this mama is more than okay with the request. eleventy-five was kind enough to send us the organic animal leggings and that darling bear tank. Also, my mom found a stash of old dance costumes from when I was a little girl and brought them over for my girl to enjoy. Ruthie NEVER wears anything like this and so when she squealed with delight and wanted to try every single one on immediately, my heart skipped. We are not pink, frilly people over here but I have to admit, thrown over some cool leggings, I rather did the look, especially with that shiner she's got going on! Have a great weekend!

November 7, 2014

I've been thinking a lot lately about the idea of balance and honestly, I'm convinced there is no such thing. What there is, are seasons of life that flow and feel balanced and seasons of life that feel completely chaotic and off kilter. I've read every blog post from other working at home / freelance mama's, and they are all wonderful and offer really great tips but the advice only works when you are in a season that flows. For me, this time of year is extremely busy and even more so this year since I've been working on a side project in addition to running our business. It's all really wonderful but right now, I feel like I'm totally slacking in the mama department. I don't want to be anywhere but with my girl, but I also feel like I need to answer emails and push marketing for upcoming events. So this so called balance is, you could say, totally non existent in my world right now. I know in several weeks the storm will calm and I won't need to open the laptop up unless my little one is asleep for the night and what I'm learning is that all of it is okay - that I deserve grace, that we all deserve grace.

Working mama's outside of the home, mama's who stay home full time and mama's who work from home (and any other kind of mama there is) - None of it's easy. It never feels perfectly balanced 100% of the time. THAT'S OKAY. Do the best you can and embrace the ebbs and flows of life because that's what it is. Life.

November 6, 2014

Hello! Excited to share with you guys a new instagram account Nick and I are co running to document our journey as a family living in the city, making home and adventuring together. I've been wanting to shift my Instagram account over for a while as to focus on something that was truly about how and where we live, and thought now was the time.

My little one love account is still a private account where I may post more motherhood related things from time to time but for now I'm planning to focus our day to day, home design, Cincinnati and urban living over on @ourcityhouse.  If you care to, I'd love for you to join us!

Cheers to new things!

I'll never forget watching her walk up to that first door to say those magical childhood words for the first time. I snapped a photo and thought 'dang. there goes my baby, off doing kid stuff.' My heart exploded 100 times over and I felt so proud of her. She marched right up there, so brave, said trick or treat AND thank you and went on her way as if she's been doing this for years. I swear. Having children and experiencing these holiday's through their eyes and excitement is the best thing in the entire world.

Being her mama - I can't think of anything I enjoy more. Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween too!

ps. It was blazing cold in Cincinnati this Halloween so we had to make shift a new costume and settled on farmers / cowboys as a family. She was a darling Shirley Temple last weekend and a stinking cute little farmer girl last night. Halloween number 2 was one for the books!

pps. My man looks pretty dang good as a cowboy!

Hey friends! Popping in again to chat about Haven Magazine. I had the honor of seeing Volume 1 in its entirety last night and oh. my. god. I was in tears at its beauty. The essays are filled with so much passion and heart and grit and soul, you can not help but connect in some way. The images are moving and you get wrapped up in the colors, texture and vibe of the streets, towns and homes of India. I do not want you to miss the opportunity to get your hands on your very own copy. Please visit the Haven campaign page to see how you can secure Volume 1.  It's the type of magazine you will never want to take off your coffee table. I promise.

October 29, 2014

Heyo! Its been quite some time since i've posted some kiddo fashion around here so given fall is my favorite time of year to dress myself and my girl I thought now was a good time. Fall in Cincinnati is, in my opinion, the loveliest time of year here. It's cool but usually not cold - perfect for layering and spending most of your time outdoors. Ru is never dressed in anything too fancy. Always something she can run, jump and slide down a slide in. Because you never know when you might need to slide! These are some of my favorite looks for the littles!

October 28, 2014

Baby / toddler / kid sleep. Is there anything more wonderful and awful at the same time? Sleep, lack thereof, sleep schedules, yada yada yada was our biggest struggle for about 18 months. I would not say Ru was a horrible sleeper but she certainly wasn't great and we needed something to help get all of us through the night without waking so often. I stopped night nursing Ru about 2 months ago and I was super nervous how the transition would be for her. For a solid 6 months or so (after the infant months) she would wake once, maybe twice each night for a quick night nurse and then back in her bed to sleep until about 8 am. I thought this was a good sleep schedule UNTIL she actually did start sleeping through the night. Then I thought back and wondered how on earth I got up every single night, multiple times for 18 straight months. You guys, this new book and doll of our is genius and our SleeperHero doll has not left Ruthie's bedside since we got him. Every night, "where my sleepy harold?" "need him." It's kind of like she knows the power he has and is totally cool sleeping all night long with this guy by her side.

This darling little story is about a little boy who has night time fears and is up through the night (like most kids.) He gets this new hero doll who's light is red when it's sleep time and turns green when it's okay to wake up in the morning (you can set your dolls timer to whatever times work for you schedule!) and viola! You've got a kid sleeping through the night with their own security doll / alarm clock! We can not get enough of him in our household! (scroll through for a free shipping promo code!)

^He blends right in with all our old pals^
The awesome ladies behind SleeperHero (who happen to be some of my best friends!) are offering Little One Love readers free shipping with promo code 'littleonelove'  (US only.) Can you say amazing Christmas gift for the little loves in your life!? I can't recommend it enough! Happy sleeping!

October 27, 2014

Hello friends and happy monday! I wanted to pop in to let you all know I've set my Instagram account to private, for now. If you follow me, odds are you still do but I did use the IG exorcist which got rid of nearly 2,500 unengaged users. Gosh that felt good. Nothing crazy happened but my account was getting to a point where I was starting to feel uneasy about so many folks I don't know seeing photo's of my girl everyday. People (we don't know) started coming up to us at the grocery store and parks, knowing Ruthie by name and a few photo's were taken and posted to other accounts without permission and I think that was just it for me. As amazing as the IG community can be, (and the awesome, genuine connections i've made through it) having people know Ru and having her photos's floating around isn't something I'm comfortable with or willing to enable.  I love my child more than anything in this world and the notion that I could potentially be putting her at risk was making me feel sick to my stomach. I was literally loosing sleep over it. This decision is right for right now. I know I am going to loose business opportunities and not have the same exposure for projects and creative ventures but that's okay. If it means I have control over one tiny part of my child's safety then it is a no brainer for me. There are so many things we can not protect our children from, this is one we can and I want to be smart about it. I am not judging any mama's out there with large followings who are public. Truly. If you are comfortable with your decisions and your children's best interest is at heart (which I know it is) then great. This is not about your choices, it is purely about what feels right for us. The only thing I would ask (because I had to ask myself the same question) is, are you public because so and so is to or does it actually feel right for you? It is so easy to get caught up when you see your numbers grow and when you see how other big IG'ers / bloggers use the platform. I get all of that and was in that mindset for a long time. Again, I do not think you are wrong- please, please take that as a honest statement.

I  also wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented on my photo announcing the decision. You have no idea how much they meant to me and how supportive and encouraging the IG community felt in that moment. Thanks y'all.

October 22, 2014

This season sure has been sweet so far. This past weekend we took our little to the pumpkin patch for the fist time and it was such a blast. She is at such a fun age where everything is! She is excited and engaged in everything we do with her. I swear, having a kid is like reliving childhood in a whole new, appreciated way.

Nick and I also spent our very first night away from our girl this past weekend to celebrate our 5th anniversary and Nicks' birthday. It was wonderful and as much as we missed her, we are so glad we took a night to celebrate just us.

and ps. for all my Cincinnati readers. I'm working on a city guide and can't wait to share some of our favorite places with you! Be on the lookout next week sometime!

October 17, 2014

This morning we took a walk around the neighborhood to collect some fall treasures and talk about the different colors and sounds the leaves from falling trees make, and why they fall. Ru mostly likes to crumple them in her hands and stomp on them, but once we got home to hang our findings in her toy corner of the family room she was all, 'soooo pityy.' Bringing the outdoors in has always been something I really enjoy and I think Ruthie loves that she has her own fall decorations on display too.
